The Villa Margherita Center promotes an integrated model of care for the diagnosis and treatment of motor and non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and other Movement Disorders, with programs designed for both inpatients and outpatients.
Each year, more than 3,000 people with Parkinson’s disease are referred to Villa Margherita, housed in a restored historic building on the hills of Arcugnano (Vicenza). On average, 650 patients with Parkinson’s disease are admitted annually for an intensive, multidisciplinary rehabilitation program led by a team of professionals specialized in different medical and healthcare disciplines, and 300 patients are admitted each year for diagnostic assessment and the proposal or revision of advanced therapies.
The Center offers specialist outpatient clinics for Movement Disorders (70 visits per week, 280 visits per month).
Particular attention is devoted to psycho-educational programs for patients and their families during hospitalization, in the community, and at home. In addition, Villa Margherita provides training courses on multiple aspects of Movement Disorders for medical professionals and for professionals from the various rehabilitation disciplines.
Research lines are aimed at evaluating the effects of integrated multidisciplinary, rehabilitative, and complementary care models and their impact on patients’ quality of life. Other studies focus on determining the effects of innovative interventions for the treatment of postural disorders, balance impairments, and gait disturbances in Movement Disorders.
The Center hosts students from various medical and rehabilitation disciplines for internships through agreements with several national and international universities.
