Basic Science Pre-Doctoral Research Fellowship 2023

We are delighted to announce the availability of the Marlene & Paolo Fresco Basic Science Pre-Doctoral Research Fellowships. The fellowships will support the pre-doctoral work of up to two candidates in a laboratory within the NYULH Neuroscience (https://neuroscience.nyu.edu).

 

Successful applicants will be able to start the fellowship from September 1, 2023 and receive support for research training at a NYU laboratory for up to 1 year with a minimum of 6 months.

 

Research sponsored by the Fresco Institute seeks to elucidate the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in the genesis of Parkinson Disease and other movement disorders with advanced molecular, genetic, optical, neurochemical and electrophysiological approaches.

 

The ideal candidates are talented, motivated and creative Italian citizens with a Master Degree and engaged in an Italian or European PhD program or equivalent program. The candidates should also have an excellent track record of research achievement and expertise in at least one of these fields: molecular genetics, electrophysiology, cellular imaging, animal behavior, computational neuroscience and biomedical engineering.

Application documentation to be submitted

  1. CV of the candidate in English
  1. A one-page cover letter including a summary of the candidate’s:
        • History and commitment to research
        • Expectations about the training to be obtained with this fellowship
        • Description of research interests
        • Indications about the specific faculty or lab of the NYULH Neuroscience Institute that the candidate is interested to work with
  1. The application must include at least two letters of references from previous or current mentors that should include description of the mentor’s qualifications and experience.
  1. A copy of all degree certificate(s) with grades in Italian with an English translation
  1. Information about the candidate’s Institute and PhD program (description of the Institute overall structure and PhD program, ongoing research projects, mentor’s CV, etc.).
  1. Evidence of English language proficiency, as determined by one of the following:
        • TOEFL score of at least 65 or IELTS score of at least 5.5 (completed within five years at the time of application submission)
        • Signed documentation from an academic institution or English language school
        • If none of the above documents are available, English language proficiency will be determined during an interview conducted by the sponsor either in-person, by videoconferencing, or by telephone
