Parkinson’s disease and the neurodegenerative movement disorder diseases are progressively increasing their incidence on the population.
This reality, together with the progressive prolongation of the average life and high specificity of medical therapies, collides with a society increasingly based on efficiency and less and less dedicated to informal caregiving, leading to a progressive increase in the economic impact of these diseases on national social and health systems.
The new challenge is to develop interdisciplinary models of care capable of giving effective answers to the multiple needs of each patient and their family members. In this challenge, neuropsychology, is a fundamental discipline both in the delicate phase of diagnosis and in the more articulated phase of treating the disease. The symptoms of the cognitive system and of the emotional-motivational system are in fact crucial in these diseases due to the impact they have on the functional aspects of everyday life as well as on the socio-relational aspects of the individual.
The course aims to provide the theoretical reference systems and methodological models for the application of neuropsychological tools useful in the clinical approach of this pathologies.
Furthermore, it will provide concrete operational tools for the integration of the neuropsychologist into the interdisciplinary team dedicated to patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease and improving their quality of life. This includes psychometric assessment techniques, interpretation of data collected during the evaluation phase, management of rehabilitation, and psychoeducational and support projects.
Target Audience: Psychologist
Moderator: Daniele Volpe
