Project Description

Trial Finder Project

The Fresco Parkinson Institute collaborates with the Michael J. Fox Foundation to promote the Fox Trial Finder database, an online tool to foster the participation of Parkinson’s patients in clinical trials, linking each patient to the most suitable one.

The recruitment project which started in the United States in 2012, has collected 60,000 volunteers worldwide.1,000 of these volunteers originated from Italy, of which 700 have Parkinson’s disease or atypical parkinsonisms. 400 volunteers were used for the control group. The increase in the number of clinical and pharmacological research participants allows an acceleration of therapeutic developments.

40%-70% of worldwide studies undergo delays due to lack of volunteers. This tool facilitates their retrieval and is a valuable resource for researchers.

Anyone interested in participating in a trial, can enroll at www.trialfinder.org by completing a simple card on the diagnosis and the diagnostic-therapeutic process of the disease.

“We want to create an alliance that allows the patient to make “his” illness known in a detailed manner and for the researcher to find pairing with the patients enrolled in the project perfectly suitable for his studies. Therefore, recruitment is faster and easier with a positive impact on the possibility of creating and studying new drugs for Parkinson’s.”
